R&B and rap artist Chris Brown has cancelled his Australian and New Zealand tour after being denied a visa based on his history of domestic violence. Ticketek Australia released a statement on Wednesday morning confirming Brown’s Australian and New Zealand tour scheduled for December had been scrapped.
Back in September, the Australian government issued Chris Brown with a notice of intent to refuse him a visa. This was day before his tickets were to go on sale. The artist then had 28 days to either challenge or withdraw his application to come to Australia. And obviously his appeal was unsuccessful.
The 26-year-old artist was convicted in 2009 for assaulting and threatening to kill his then-girlfriend Rihanna and was sentenced to five years probation. Tickets for his Down Under tour still went on sale despite his unclear visa status although much support was received from his fans down under.
